May 14, 2010 Armed Forces Day

On this Armed Forces Day, May 15, 2010, let us honor and thank the soldiers, sailors, airmen, Marines and coast guardsmen who bravely secure the liberty and freedoms of our Constitutional Republic. Today, the men and women in uniform not only secure our liberty and freedom but, as they always have, seek to promote freedom in lands far away from their home. It was a privilege to serve 22 years in service of my country in the Army, following the legacy of my father and brother. The Armed Forces of the United States carries on the highest tradition of integrity and character. Let us keep those who wear our Nation's uniform, as well as their families, in our thoughts and prayers always. May they return home safe, and in victory. Steadfast and Loyal, LTC(R) Allen B. West

May 16, 2010 Washingtoons: "What is at Stake?"

"What is at Stake?"

Greetings Wheels on the Road (WOTR) readers, fellow South Floridians, and indeed all Americans. It is time for our monthly political assessment, and do we have lots to assess. I am writing from the home of my dear friend Lt. Col. Neal Puckett (USMC, Ret.) in Alexandria Va who just successfully defended US Navy SEAL Matthew McCabe. I have a week of evening meetings in DC and on station work in nearby Crystal City. After getting settled I took a nice late morning run through Alexandria and along the Potomac. As I raced along, my mind also raced along thinking about all that has recently occurred, and the incredible ramifications. The BP oil rig crisis was first to enter my thoughts, and my condolences to the families of those who lost their loved ones. It has truly become what was characterized as a "ridiculous spectacle". There is no reason why those we elect to oversee our Nation have no clue about deep water oil drilling emergency management procedures. Leadership is about anticipating, analyzing, and executing viable solutions, before the incident occurs; that is what we call vision. Leadership is not about the immature game of pointing fingers and laying blame. As well, leadership is not about saying "mea culpa" and giving up on what is a national security, economic, and jobs, issue for our Nation. Our dear fearful leader President Obama fashioned himself as a reincarnation of Presidents Lincoln and Roosevelt. I must remind him that after the devastating attack on Pearl Harbor, Roosevelt delivered an address evidencing leadership, and vision. Furthermore, he did not look to blame, but wanted answers to prevent another such event. However, most importantly Roosevelt did not cower away, he thought of how this Nation could respond in kind.....which resulted in the Doolittle Raid on Tokyo. That is leadership, that is American leadership. Also, did you all realize that there was a catastrophic weather event in Nashville Tennessee? Hmmm, funny, the President never visited the city nor publicly offered regards, something that has not gone unnoticed. Did you all notice that we had a terrorist attack in New York City? Yes, in Times Square, there was a fella who was upset about losing his home to foreclosure and decided to act as a lone wolf and wanted to blow up just a couple of people.....so the media and the Obama Administration would love for us to believe. Another embarrassing moment for Attorney General Holder, Director of Homeland Security Janet Napolitano, and the other cast members of "The Gang who cannot Think Straight". Just this past week, when queried before a Senate panel on radical Islam being an impetus behind the rash of domestic terrorist activity, Holder stated that "he was not comfortable" with that premise. This of course comes along with his desire to file a lawsuit against the State of Arizona for a law which he admitted to not reading. I will never forgive Holder for referring to our Country as a "nation of cowards". But when I consider the inept and incompetent person which he is, well, I do have pity on him. In the last month we have seen Greece explode in riots. This is obviously what happens when you allow people to retire at age 55 with 80% pensions, truly an entitlement class. When they were told that the government of Greece is bankrupt and will finally have to act fiscally responsible, hmmm, see what happens. Now, here we are in the US with debt in the trillions, we decide to lend Greece $1Trillion, which we had to borrow. And do not forget that we have 47% of Americans who do not pay federal income taxes but are being promised free everything....do you see a pattern or worse, a parallel? Socialist economic theory has never been successful, why do the liberal intellectual elites believe they can make it so in America? Our success in 233 years has been based upon a work ethic and free market principles, how long before what is happening in Europe, and with the Euro, comes to America? Economics 101, revenues increase when taxation is lightest, will someone please inform the occupants of the White House and Capitol Hill that immutable maxim. Also, get the CBO a new calculator since somehow they miscalculated the healthcare law costs by some $250 Billion. Speaking of miscalculation, the latest from Afghanistan is that the leadership has proposed a new medal, an award for "Courageous Restraint". Yes, you heard me right, the military leadership in Afghanistan is considering awarding combat troops for "NOT FIRING BACK". There have been some fairly insidious plans proposed in the history of warfare, but never an award for Warriors to not fight. I know, the liberal intellectual elites are going to call me brutish and mean. The leadership proposing this inane action is going to say, "it is about protecting the Afghan civilians". My retort is simple, and comes from two opposing Civil War Generals; General Wm T Sherman, "War is hell" and Cavalry General N Bedford Forest, "War is about fighting, and fighting means killing". If we do not want our Men and Women in combat to fight and kill the enemy, I say we retrograde from Afghanistan. The promotion of hesitation in combat by senior military leaders means that more of our American treasure will lose their lives and be forever maimed. I have been in a firefight, it is about gaining and maintaining the initiative, not restraint. And speaking of restraint, how many Senators will show restraint and not vote to confirm Elena Kagan? Actually, it is not about restraint, it is about moral courage, ok, I just answered my own question. If I were sitting there in the US Senate I could tell you right now what my vote would be, No. No to anyone who would file an amicus brief challenging the Solomon Amendment which allows ROTC recruiting on college campuses. Ms Kagan made the cowardly decision to not confront the Clinton administration or the Congress, but rather evidenced her anti-military sentiments. She and her compatriots were soundly defeated 8-0 by the Supreme Court, however, if she were to be on the bench of our Nation highest court and same case came before her........ Soon we will need Justices who make decisions for our Constitutional Republic and its borders, language, and culture, no more activist judges in our federal court systems. How would judges rule in the case of five young Americans who were suspended from school for wearing US flags on their shirts? Just for clarification, Cinco de Mayo recognizes the victory of the Mexican milita against the French at the Battle of Puebla, 1862. Mexico actually gained its independence on 16 September 1821. Cinco de Mayo is not even a national Mexican celebration, just a regional one, therefore the premise of suspending these young men is false. This incident combined with the support to disregard our borders and laws is very disconcerting. Lastly, I addressed the true "party of political intimidation" last month, the Democrat party. And it did not take them one month to prove me right, and personally as well. Ron Klein decided to attack one of our campaign volunteers who just happens to work for a local news station. His subversive, immature, and petulant actions resulted in a very professional person to be confronted at her workplace, and publicly humiliated by the Palm Beach Post. As well, there has sprung up a "No West FL-22 Blog" in South Florida along with a "No West FL-22 Twitter" account. There are a couple of interesting twitter comments posted, "November is hunting season and there is no bag limit", which is followed by this sent out 13 May at 8:30am, "I will skin you personally West". Funny, we did submit a police report but do you think it will get any attention. Do you think the mainstream media will report this twitter post? What is at stake is America......how many more months can we take like this past 30 days. America is being led into a "Hurt Locker". Steadfast and Loyal, LTC Allen B. West

May 18, 2010 Can you help fight back against the liberal political machine controlling Washington DC right now?

Greetings Patriot, We must remain vigilant in protecting our Liberty as we continue our fight to preserve this Constitutional Republic. The attacks on our conservative principles are coming faster and from a wider variety of adversaries. Over the last month, the mainstream media has attempted to paint Tea Parties as racist organizations. This charge is ludicrous and almost laughable. I have personally attended several Tea Party gatherings - large and small - since their inception over a year ago. The Tea Party movement is committed to supporting candidates and elected officials who will end out of control government spending and get the government out of the way so our economy can recover. This is why they support me, and why I have their flank covered. And now President Obama has nominated Elena Kagan for the opening on the Supreme Court. Kagan filed an amicus brief that was aimed at banning military recruiters from campus when she was Dean of Harvard's Law School. Additionally, she favors extending Constitutional protections to illegal enemy combatants further weakening our National Security. After speaking out on both these issues, it should come as no surprise the liberal media has started to attack me. Just last week the Daily Beast (what a name-of course you know it is a liberal online publication!) tried to use my military record against me. These attacks are just the beginning. You have previously shown great courage in joining our campaign to return basic American values to the United States Congress.Once again, I am asking for your help as we fight back against the liberal political machine which is controlling Washington DC right now. Your contribution of $25, $50 or $100 will help me fight these liberal attacks that are being shot at me and our campaign as we try to bring common conservative sense to Washington! Please click here to make a contribution to defeat one of Nancy Pelosi's puppets-Democratic Congressman Ron Klein. Your support will allow us to deliver our message of providing physical and economic security to all our citizens. Steadfast and Loyal, LTC (R) Allen B. West.

May 29, 2010 This Memorial Day we honor the men and women who gave all so that we may all enjoy our freedom

Americans are about to celebrate what they see as the beginning of summer and a time for heading to vacation spots or staying home and BBQing. What we must all celebrate and reflect upon is that since the "Shot heard around the world", men and women have answered this Nation's call and protected our liberties. They have also departed the warmth of their homes and the love of their families to provide the hope of freedom to others. As we are a Nation at war with Islamic totalitarianism and state sponsored terrorism, let us stop to give honor to those who have made the "last full measure of devotion". Sir Edmund Burke stated, "all that is needed for evil to triumph is for good men to do nothing". God has blessed us with an indomitable spirit of Americans who throughout history have done something, defended us, that is what they do. At a time when our Military is being used as a pawn in a game of political special interest payback, we must never forget their sacrifices. We must remember those in harm's way who are under the restrictions of horrific rules of engagement. We must all remember that 10 US Army Soldiers, such as 1LT Michael Behenna, sit in Ft. Leavenworth prison for doing what our Country called them to do. Everyday we breathe the clean air of freedom, everyday we should celebrate Memorial Day. Happy Memorial Day......God bless the United States of America. Steadfast and Loyal, Lieutenant Colonel Allen B West (US Army, Ret.)

Jun 30, 2010 Notes from the Trail - The Hypocrisy of the Left

Team West Supporters,

On Monday, Ron Klein launched his latest attempt at salvaging his fledging fundraising efforts. In an email to his shrinking pool of supporters, Klein outrageously claimed that Allen West has raised $2 million from people who have either been sympathetic to BP, proposed cuts to Medicare/Social Security, or are affiliated with corporations accused of wrongdoing. With a complicit local left wing media at his back, Ron Klein and his political hacks have the freedom to make baseless assertions that the average American who supports our campaign "would leave our beaches in ruin, end Social Security and Medicare..."

Here are the facts:
  • Allen West has raised over $2 Million from nearly 26,000 individual contributions - including many of Klein's former supporters. That's about $80 on average per donation. Over 94% of our funds have come from individual contributions.
  • Ron Klein has received a vast majority of contributions as a Congressman from PACs, unions, and other special interests. This includes at least $22,000 from trial lawyers, $10,000 from the SEIU, $30,000 from the Teamsters, and $11,000 from Fannie & Freddie.
In his desperate plea for more money to save his failing campaign, Klein tried to link Allen to BP through a March 2010 contribution from Congressman Joe Barton in Texas, and thousands of other donations from average Americans.

Here are the facts:
  • Allen West has never taken a dime from BP, has expressed his anger with BP's inability to control its rig, and frustration with the Federal Government's complete and utter failure in stemming the environmental disaster occurring off of Florida's coasts.
  • Ron Klein received $1,500 from BP, has a former Chief of Staff who is now a lobbyist for BP, has been flip flopping on his position on offshore drilling, and has done absolutely nothing in his role as a United States Congressman to pressure the Obama Administration to get on top of this crisis.
Klein - a career politician and trial lawyer - says he is for the average American, yet has voted 98% of the time with Nancy Pelosi. He says he supports hard working citizens, yet he attacks and vilifies these very people for writing modest checks to his opponent. He says he is for Israel, yet he remains silent and actually defends the Obama Administration's shameful browbeating of the Jewish State. He says he respects the veteran, yet he ruthlessly attacks and repeatedly calls 'extremist' a man who courageously and selflessly served his country for over 2 decades, serving in 3 different combat zones. Klein tries to link Allen to BP, yet he accepted and has refused to return $1,500 in donations from the oil giant. $1,500 may not be a lot of money to a career politician, but to the average Floridian, $1,500 is real money.
The hypocrisy is so thick you could slice it with a knife.
It has become crystal clear that a career in politics has distorted reality for Ron Klein. He is doing whatever it takes to run away from his record, and from the real problems facing South Florida. Under Ron Klein and Nancy Pelosi's watch, Florida's unemployment rate has climbed to a staggering 12.3% - much higher than the national average. When one drives down A1A or Federal Highway and sees empty house after empty house from Jupiter to Fort Lauderdale, it is a stark reminder of why Florida has the third highest foreclosure rate in the country. Ron Klein and his ultra-liberal base have set our country in a steep decline, and average Americans are fed up.

In the coming months, I can all but guarantee that you will see very little of Ron Klein as he continues to dodge his ultra liberal record. Rather, I expect a very negative campaign in which character assassination will be the method of choice for Klein and his cronies. But as continually demonstrated by Klein, he has miscalculated the American people, thus his tactics will continue to fail. The West Campaign will continue to run a campaign on the issues that South Floridians and all Americans care about - restoring our economy, protecting Americans, and bringing character and integrity back to Washington.

From the Trail,
Josh Grodin Campaign Manager,
Allen West for Congress

Jul 12, 2010 Thank you to all of our supporters- I am proud to stand shoulder to shoulder with each of you.

Dear Fellow Patriots,
Today I was proud and truly humbled when we publicly released our 2nd Quarter fundraising numbers. Between April and June, our campaign raised over $1.4 million, bringing our total amount raised to nearly $3.5 million. While these numbers are certainly impressive, the real strength of our campaign lies in the fact that over the course of this election cycle, almost 96% of our donations have come from individual contributions.
Over 40,000 people from Florida's Congressional District 22 and from across our great country have generously given to our campaign - In these tough economic times, your contributions of $5, $20, $100 have really added up to make a difference. Thanks to you - our army of volunteers and supporters - our campaign will demonstrate that the American people, led by the good folks here in South Florida, can elevate someone into the United States House of Representatives. You - American citizens - are the true cavalry of our fight to restore character, honor and integrity to Washington, DC. Without you, these record-setting figures would have been impossible to achieve.
While we are certainly motivated and rolling with clear momentum, please know that we are just getting started. November 2nd is just under 4 months away, but we have a tough fight brewing. Rest assured, as an Army Paratrooper who has stared down our enemy in the battlefields across the globe, I am proud to stand shoulder to shoulder with each of you, as we continue our fight to restore American principles in Congress.
Steadfast and Loyal,
LTC(R) Allen West

Jul 19, 2010 Washingtoons: "One Nation under God Indivisible with Liberty and Justice for All"

by: Lieutenant Colonel Allen B West (US Army, Retired)
Greetings Wheels on the Road readers, fellow South Floridians, and all Americans, my how time flies and here we are again for our monthly political assessment.
It never ceases to amaze me that as we get closer to our monthly submission of this regular missive that the topic becomes evident. I often use an ole saying from my parents, "sometimes you just have to thank God for stupid people"....and I do. The focus for this month without any doubt has to be the NAACP and its President/CEO Benjamin Todd Jealous.
Let me make one thing very clear, my Mother, Elizabeth Thomas West, was a lifetime membership holder with the NAACP. Therefore growing up in our home I clearly understood the mission and vision for this organization. It was a mission and vision that enabled me to have the pride in myself and the heritage of my parents, grandparents, and extended family. It was a mission and vision that, to me, fostered a desire to excel beyond the standard and have a commitment to excellence regardless of skin color.
However, something has happened to that mission and vision, something horrific and inconsistent with the principles and values I recalled emanating from the "ole school" black community. Somewhere along the way victimization mentality has taken root in the black community resulting in astronomical unemployment rates, high incarceration rates, appalling murder rates, breakdown of the black family, and embarrassing teen pregnancy rates.
And in the light of all these negative socioeconomic indicators the NAACP decides that the preeminent focus of their national convention would be on issuing a resolution castigating the Tea (Taxed Enough Already) Party movement as racist. Even Congresswoman Sheila Jackson-Lee of Texas was so compelled as to state that the Tea Party is filled with Klan members.....but we will get to the Congressional Black Caucus a bit later.
Instead of maintaining its mission and vision, the NAACP has now become the "useful idiots" (a term coined by Vladimir Lenin) for liberal racism. They have made themselves into a political hack job organization which now seeks to maintain the liberal progressive socialist control of the 21 century plantation. It is on this new economic plantation where the liberals seek to enslave the black community in order to maintain a devoted, monolithic, voting electorate.
I find it interesting that the NAACP was silent when Senator Harry Reid made his insidious comments about President Obama was favorable, likeable, because he is "light-skinned" and did not speak in "negro dialect". I recall that the NAACP said nothing when Vice President Joe Biden referred to Barack Hussein Obama as "clean and articulate". The NAACP said nothing when liberals attacked Clarence Thomas, Condoleeza Rice (birthing tubes cartoon), Michael Steele, and General Colin Powell.
In 2008, where was the NAACP to denounce the obvious case of voter intimidation by the New Black Panther Party? Why did the NAACP not demand President George W Bush, and now, Attorney General Eric Holder, and the Obama administration, to prosecute this case to the fullest extent? Does the NAACP now support the same tactic which targeted the black community seeking to restrict the most fundamental of American individual rights, the right to vote? And shall the NAACP distance itself and condemn Malik Shabazz and the New Black Panther Party?
It is this duplicitous hypocrisy which allows me to state that the NAACP is shamefully now a liberal racist enabler. The upcoming mid-term elections have the Democrat party in certain peril. Therefore they have turned to their tactic of first and last resort, race baiting.
The resolution issued by the NAACP against the Tea Party is just a strategy to focus this coming election not against liberal progressive policies, which are anathema to our Republic. No, the NAACP, in conjunction with their masters, the Democrat party, seek to make this into an election based upon an insane charge of racial hatred.
We even see charlatan blasts from the past such as Julian Bond stating that Martin Luther King Jr was a socialist, a feeble attempt to garner black community acceptance of the liberal progressive agenda. We are truly on the verge of a dangerous situation in America. And yes, this also includes the lawsuit being brought against the sovereign State of Arizona, an attempt to win Hispanic votes.....an extension of liberal racism to another minority group.
We can fully expect from now until 2 November 2010 to see the usual suspects come out to promote the dishonest tyranny of the liberals. You will find the Congressional Black Caucus, Jesse Jackson, and Al Sharpton out to ensure blacks remain wedded to the failing liberal social welfare policies, all the time shouting how the Democrats know what is best. I find it comical that Al Sharpton has already leapt forward to head up a new left-wing grassroots group to counter the Tea Party called "One Nation".
Does One Nation believe in higher taxes and bigger government? Will this counter group promote individual rights and freedoms, liberty, and adherence to our US Constitution? I presume this group will seek to intimidate and put forth the ideals of collectivism combined with victimhood and expansion of the "nanny-state".
I find the Tea Party, to which I have spoken to several times, stands for fundamental principles and values consistent with that which has made America an exceptional Constitutional Republic.
Therefore, under the "leadership" of Al Sharpton, this counter group One Nation obviously stands for principles which are antithetical to our Republic.
In closing, I am sure you are asking why did the ole Colonel have the last sentence in the Pledge of Allegiance in the title for this piece?
Simple, Liberal Racism does not believe in One Nation under God. They believe in a Nation of subjects organized into collective groups under which they shall rule, not govern, in a secular humanist based society.
Indivisible, Liberal Racism does not believe in "e pluribus unim", they prefer a balkanized America where they can pit us against each other through their manipulated messages....such as Tea Party racism.
Liberal racism does not believe in Liberty and Justice for All, they believe in freedom defined by a ruling class elite while creating more victims who become dependent upon their dishonest benevolence. Justice in the world of Liberal Racism means social and economic justice rooted in a principle of leveling, which founding father Samuel Adams spoke against. Al Sharpton defined justice as everyone having the same in every home in America.....government engineering of results and outcomes.
The mid-term elections of 2 November 2010 comes down to "One Nation under God Indivisible with Liberty and Justice for All" or the concept of One Nation under the proprietor of victimization Al Sharpton, a simpleton crony of Liberal Racism. Which shall you choose?
Steadfast and Loyal,
LTC(R) Allen B West
